About

The piece bench made and painted by hand in the colonial style is from the 1970s. Used as part of the furnishing from an early 18th stone farm house in Kinderhook NY is a nice functional piece in two forms. The Candle arm section will raise and lower adjusting to the height desired. Topped by hand made tin smith crafted candle cups, stands and bobeches they come with hand dipped candles to fit. The table section with a slightly dished surface also adjusts to the desired position. Both candle section and table section raise and lower on a turned screw section that terminates at one end in a carved pineapple finial and at the other end in a simple pedestal column and then becomes a biscuit base with three splayed turned legs. The entire table is washed with a dense black color and then given decorative borders in red paint to certain areas highlighting the overall form. Everything has then been distressed to simulate use and wear. Difficult to read but there is a pencil signed name and date on the bottom of the maker and the date 1976.
