About the Item

Louis XIII side table / center table hand-made in France in the early 1700s using walnut and pegged construction. The table has gorgeous proportions and features a three-board top with ogee edges. The apron is flat and a single inset drawer can be found on the front. The drawer is decorated with hand-carved thin molding along the edge, adding some depth to the piece. I dare say the most striking feature of this table are the hand-carve barley twist and bulb legs. The bulbs were obtained by attaching rounded sections to the four exposed sides of a cube (pictured), given that at the time there was no easy way to make spherical objects from a single cut of wood. Therefore, together with being a gorgeous and elegant table, this is piece is also a statement to the craftsmanship of its maker.
