About the Item

This elegant table was created in France during the Bourbon restoration, following the fall of Napoleon I in 1814. The table is designed in a refined Neoclassical style, which was popular in this period. The table features a circular black fossil marble top which projects out slightly from the wooden frieze below. This frieze is mounted with decorative gilt bronze (ormolu) wreaths and symmetrical foliate motifs. The table top is supported by three wooden legs which are carved in the shape of classical Tuscan columns. These legs are linked by a wooden triform stretcher. The table stands on three wooden bun feet which are set on castors (wheels).
