This exquisite French Louis XVI style marble top table is a rare example of neoclassical artistry in the manner of Adam Weisweiler, one of the most celebrated ébénistes of 18th-century France. The table features a rich green marble top framed by a gilded bronze gallery, supported by elegant brass faux bamboo legs joined by a refined mahogany X-stretcher with a central pinecone finial. The balance of materials—cool marble with a fine minor crack in the top, glowing brass, and warm walnut wood—creates a composition of timeless sophistication.
Perfectly embodying the Louis XVI aesthetic, this table reflects Weisweiler’s genius for combining exotic influences with classical harmony. His designs often featured gilt bronze mounts, bamboo motifs, and intricate marquetry, favored by Queen Marie Antoinette and French nobility.
About Adam Weisweiler (1744–1820):
Born in Germany and trained in Paris, Adam Weisweiler became one of the preeminent cabinetmakers under the reign of Louis XVI. Working primarily for the marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre, his refined creations graced royal palaces, blending neoclassical structure with delicate ornamentation. Today, his works are displayed in the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Wallace Collection.
