English Leather-Top Center Table in Cuban Mahogany
About the Item
Leather-top center table in Cuban mahogany. Leather-covered top. Original mercury-gilt brass trims the top's decorative edge. Leather surface is hand-tooled and gilded. Base features matching mercury-gilt cast brass trim.
Cuban mahogany - considered the finest - is now extinct, and known for its rich subtle tones. The early deep, rich polished finish of this circa 1815-1840 statement piece is recently refreshed by an expert hand.
The mercury-gilding is all-original and mostly intact with some losses. Exposed brass reveals small amounts of verdigris patina (where copper and zinc mixed unevenly to create the cast brass adornment).
Note: Original/early finish on antique and vintage metal will include some, or all, of the following: patina and some discoloration. Regional differences in humidity and climate during shipping may cause antique and vintage wood to shrink and/or split along its grain, veneer to loosen and/or peel.
