About the Item
Delightful English sail-shaped coffee table dating from the late 19th century, made of wood and papier-mâché, with a turned frame and an elegant shaped top. The surface is entirely hand-painted, adorned with floral motifs and mother-of-pearl inserts that add light and sophistication to the composition.
The top, with a diameter of 55 cm, is mounted on a folding hinge and can be raised to a vertical position (overall height 104 cm) or held in a horizontal position (height 72 cm), in keeping with the taste and practicality typical of Victorian parlor furniture. The rich and original pictorial decoration shows numerous wears, signs of time that attest to its authenticity and lived-in charm.
