About the Item
A sensational and extremely high quality Florentine 19th century Fruitwood, Exotic Wood, Mother of Pearl and Bone tilt top center table, by Falcini. This stunning octagon shaped table is raised on bun feet below the octagonal base decorated with Fruitwood and Exotic Wood inlays of foliage, and Mother of Pearl flowers. The central support above displays additional Fruitwood and Exotic Wood inlays of foliage leading up all sides to stunning Bone tulips at the midsection. The tilt top above is supported on an Ebonized Fruitwood block while displaying the original tilting mechanism. The exceptionally inlaid top showcases an inlaid central reserve of a Parrot grasping a branch, while surrounded by a foliate wreath with inlays of Mother of Pearl and Bone. Leading outward are eight wonderfully inlaid bouquets of flowers flanked by double scrolled acanthus leaves joined by intertwined foliate scrolls. An elegant Rais de Coeur band follows the perimeter of the octagonal top and displays triangular Fruitwood inlays at each corner. Exceptional craftsmanship and a truly statement making.
Luigi and Angiolo Falcini were sons of a woodworker from Campi, near Florence, who inherited a family tradition of woodworking and cabinetry. In the late 1820s / early 1830s, Luigi relocated to Florence and established a bottega; Angiolo later joined him, forming the atelier known for high-quality inlaid furniture.
