About the Item

A stunning and very high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Satinwood, and ormolu center table attributed to Henry Dasson. The circular table is raised by delicate topie shaped feet with beautiful fitted foliate ormolu sabots and reeded top caps below the most elegant tapered fluted legs with fitted brass inlaid in the flutes, mottled fluted bottom caps, and superb curved spiral fluted top caps. The legs are connected by an exceptional pierced stretcher with remarkable curved interlocking geometric designs with a fine beaded ormolu band at the border. Above each leg are richly chased block rosettes in a superb satin and burnished finish flanking the apron which displays faux drawers centering an exceptional intricately detailed pierced fitted ormolu plaque with beautiful Rinceau scrolled foliate movements with large acanthus leaves, vines with grape leaves, and charming blooming flowers. Above is the sensational sunburst veneered Satinwood top showcasing the beautiful wood grain framed within a mottled wrap around ormolu gallery. All original gilt throughout. Henry Dasson (1825–1896) was a renowned 19th century Parisian maker of gilt-bronze mounted furniture. Dasson specialized in the production of Louis XIV, XV and XVI styles, using the finest gilt-bronze mounts and was recognized as a brilliant bronzier. ?Dasson was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur in 1883 and was awarded the Grand Prix Artistique at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle.
