About the Item

Very fine Swedish 19th Century gilt bronze mounted center table in the manner of George Haupt. In mixed woods, the top with marquetry basket of flowers withing an oval on a satin birch ground with eliptic curve string inlay and having a kingwood and aramanth band and gilt bronze edging with sausage and bead detail, over inlaid apron with inlaid trompe l'oeil fluting and swags. Standing on square tapered legs with inlaid bellflowers and patera, ending in bronze capped feet. Georg Haupt, born in 1741-1784, was a Swedish craftsman and one of the most famous designers of Gustavian furniture. He became a cabinetmaker to King Adolphus Frederick in 1769. He was burgess of Stockholm in 1770 and 1771.
