Italian 19th Century Baroque St. Polychrome, Giltwood and Scagliola Center Table
About the Item
An impressive and large scale Italian 19th century Baroque st. polychrome, giltwood and Scagliola center table. The circular table is raised by elegantly scrolled polychrome legs with handsome paw feet decorated with fine giltwood accents and superb fur like designs. The circular mottled central support displays wrap around bands of finely carved seashells and striking beaded designs. The scalloped frieze displays a superb rope designed giltwood band at the border leading to lovely finely detailed giltwood seashell reserves set on a forest green polychrome background. Above is the outstanding original Scagliola top with a lovely wonderfully executed central reserve of a charming intricately detailed scene of a clearing looking out over the water with mountains in the background, sailboats docked at a castle like ruin in the foreground with finely detailed trees, fishermen and an elegant maiden framed within an off white beaded band. The black Scagliola top displays lovely interlocking scrolled designs and a fine mottled band at the border. All original gilt and patina throughout.

This beautiful three legged Giltwood center table is raised by three 'C' scrolled foliate supports decorated by acanthus leaves, floral accents, and end with a seashell above a ball. Above the three supports is a triangular tier with a wonderful rose bud centrally placed inside the three scrolled and mottled edge Giltwood legs. The three legs support an exquisite central reserve of a pierced foliate scroll with a top finial.
