We are delighted to offer for sale this large and very important carved giltwood marble topped impressive centre table circa 19th century
A 19th century French carved giltwood centre table in the Louis XIV taste, surmounted by a rectangular panel of breche violette marble, within a foliate border, the cushion frieze decorated with foliage and with shaped and pierced acanthus and paterae aprons, on openwork square section tapered legs with acanthus leaf husk and paterae ornament, united by curved acanthus scroll stretchers with central finial
The condition is really quite exquisite, there doesn’t seem to be any losses or issue with the carving anywhere, the marble is free from chips, there may be stress fractures as is often the case with old thick marble tables, I can’t see any if there are
The last one of these tables to come to auction unrestored sold in 2013 with Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood, it sold for £15,295 inc premium
