- Small Georgian Mahogany Sofa TableLocated in Bedfordshire, GBA Very Good Quality George III Period Mahogany Sofa Table, Of Rare Diminutive Proportions, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Having Drop Flap To Each End, Over One Long Drawer & One False Drawer To Reverse With Replacement Brass Handles, Raised On Square End Supports With Elegant High Stretcher And Four Sabre Legs Terminating On Original Brass Castors. This chamring little sofa table is of really unusual size, the kind of proportions which we have rarely come across before, but those proportions are absolutely great for both function and elegance. It is just about small enough to not dominate the centre of a room, or even to just tuck into a corner, whilst at the same time retaining a little presence. Its constructed from good quality mahogany timbers and instead of the two drawers at the front which is more commonly found on its full size counterparts it has just one elongated drawer and of course another false drawer to the reverse. Sofa tables were relatively commonly found throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and as the name suggests they were originally designed to sit behind a sofa, although a common misconception is that they were meant to butt right up against the sofa itself. Actually they were normally designed to sit a few feet away from the sofa, hence the false drawers on reverse. That said they also look quite happy pushed right up against the back of a sofa and are such useful, versatile items of furniture. As with all of our items this georgian mahogany sofa table...Category

- Georgian Satinwood Pembroke TableLocated in Bedfordshire, GBA very fine quality 18th century Georgian Sheraton period satinwood pembroke table having superbly figured two flap top, with attractive padouk wood crossbanded decoration, over one frieze drawer opposed by dummy drawer to reverse, retaining original brass handles, raised on elegant square tapering legs, terminating on original brass castors. Pembroke tables became one of the most popular pieces of furniture around the middle of the 18th century, owing largely to their versatility and their plethora of different functions. In fact George Hepplewhite himself actually described Pembroke tables as "the most useful of tables" and many references can be found to them in the literature of the time. People such as Jane Austen even described them being used for dining at, or for writing at, whilst there is even reference to them being used in other places around the house such as for ladies to sit and and carry out their embroidery. One thing that is certain is that the fact they are incredibly versatile even in todays world and can be used for many, many different purposes. The option of being able to use the two flaps to create significant variations in the size of the table top surface is certainly a popular and useful feature. This particular Georgian Satinwood...Category
