1970’s Modern Coffee Table Kroehler Rectangle Top Bentwood Curved Double U Base

Stunning vintage Mid Century Modern coffee table with a black painted wood base & a biomorphic or kidney shaped glass top in the style of Kroehler Pearsall or Tonk. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, it had a few nicks & scuffs on the black base so we gave it a fresh coat of black paint. The glass has one very small chip in edge (may be able to be sanded out) & normal scratching on surface for age. This is a marvelous vintage mid-century modern style coffee table comprised of a black painted wood base and a biomorphic or kidney shaped glass top in the style of Kroehler, Adrian Pearsall, or Tonk Manufacturing Company. This savvy little coffee table certainly took us on a wild goose chase that I’m not sure is completely over! You can find this table all over the internet attributed to Adrian Pearsall. It is NOT designed by him. Of that we are sure. But definitely in his style so it is easy to see where the misattribution comes from. It is also attributed to Valentine Seever, which is not a single person but two last names. And it may have been promoted by them as they were a division of Kroehler Manufacturing Co. It has also been attributed to Tonk Manufacturing Co., best known for their antique piano and organ swiveling stools; but we have not found actual proof of that. My mother (a “veteran” vintage...

Handsome vintage MCM Scandinavian Modern style teak extending coffee table with sliding top, white Formica square center with gold leaves, and a lower slatted shelf. This fabulous expansion design consists of inner grooves and the two top halves have pins that stick in those grooves and slide up and apart to expand the tabletop AND reveal a gorgeous square Formica lined square surface adorned with little gold leaves! An ideal place to set a beverage or vase of flowers. The wood has a beautiful variation of the natural tones inherent to the aspect of the wood… it is phenomenal! It also has a very useful slatted shelf below the tabletop… perfect storage for books, magazines, or maybe a tray for your remotes! Whether closed or expanded, its quintessential Scandinavian Modern design is sure to bring a bold statement with a Danish flair to any room in your home. Remploy is an organization in the United Kingdom which provides employment placement services for disabled people. Historically, it also directly employed disabled people in a number of factories owned by Remploy itself and subsidized by the UK government however, these were phased out at the start of the 21st century. It opened its first factory in 1946 and over the following decades it established a network of 83 factories across the UK making a variety of products. Remploy underwent a major change to its operation at the start of the 21st century and branched out into providing general employment assistance for disabled people, and others with barriers to employment. After the closure of most Remploy factories, the provision of these assistance services became Remploy's principal purpose. In March 2015, it was confirmed that Remploy would become owned by US service provider Maximus. Transfer of ownership was completed in April 2015.
