A bold and evocative abstract design decorates this mid century sculptural pair of plates from the Atelier Cerenne founded by Charles Rene Neveux in Vallauris, France in the commune of Vence. Signed verso, this gorgeous example of ceramic artistry is a tour de force of quality, restraint and style. The strong black ground is heightened by the incised white outline and further added to by the use of red, blue, yellow and green and 2 fish . Charles Rene Neveux founded the Atelier Cerenne in 1945 and it was active up through 1958 when it was sold. The atelier was best known for the small and high end production runs that produced such beautiful objects as the one here. It has been said that the Atelier Cerenne takes its name from the contraction of the founders name, Charles Rene Neveux.
