About the Item
During winter in the colder provinces of China, life revolved around the kang, a heated brick platform that household members would sit or recline upon. Placed on top of the kang, low tables provided a convenient surface for dining, drinking tea, or playing games.
This early 20th-century kang table is constructed of a fine, dense hardwood recently refinished to dark brown with warm undertones. The low waisted table features corner legs ending in hoofed feet, inset panels with a finely beaded edging, and four shallow drawers with brass drop pulls.
