About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Peculiar and elegant coffee table made of Sapele wood of the best quality; the upper table top of round shape, has been shaped with scalloping with a delicate and refined line; it has a second comfortable table top at the bottom simply round and smooth; the legs have a soft, saber shape and in the upper part are manually chiseled with light leaf decorations, they have been connected to the upper top with a very elegant and sophisticated curvilinear shaping, while in the lower part they are joined by two shaped and crossed partitions on which the lower round top rests. A solid wood frame is attached under the top table top to make the whole table sturdier. Sapele, a prestigious reddish-colored wood similar to mahogany from Equatorial Africa, was used in the construction of this piece of furniture. This sophisticated material has a tight weave and interwoven fibers, fine and uniform with a good natural luster. It is a sturdy, rather flexible, hard, and compact type of wood. It is usually used for luxury furniture and cabinetry, but also in the interior decoration of yachts and boats as well as in sophisticated and expensive musical instruments. The coffee table was handcrafted in the Chippendale style between 1920 and 1925 in a cabinet-making workshop in the county of Devon in Southeast England, a craft area also known for woodworking. Towards the end of the 18th century, an English cabinetmaker named Thomas Chippendale invented a series of furnishing accessories characterized by a unique and refined style, called Chippendale. It is one of the most famous styles born in England but quickly spread throughout Europe and is appreciated to this day. The particularity of the Chippendale style concerns above all their origin and therefore, the artistic currents that have influenced their design. The author of these furnishing complements has made these artefacts taking into account the typically French aesthetics of Louis XV furniture and the Rococo style and has made simplified "English" versions of these works. Chippendale furniture is manufactured using the highest quality materials and techniques, therefore, it is resistant and durable over time. These peculiarities, combined with a refined and elegant aesthetic taste, still make them highly appreciated and sought after today. Once placed inside a room, these furnishings are in fact able to give the spaces a particular sense of warmth that makes them welcoming and comfortable. The Chippendale furnishings, while having an extremely classic design, can be easily inserted into a modern context, as they are still very contemporary. Our coffee table is in good overall condition, it has a few very light scratches on the top, which we will mitigate with special beeswax. Measures diameter cm.72, height cm.70. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Louis Philippe Style Feather Walnut Coffee Table With Tripod North Italy
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant round coffee table from northern Italy with "orange slice" veneered with walnut-feather; the central stem of the tripod is in hexagonal solid wood; the three final supports, always in solid wood, are shaped and well whittled with simple and rigorous lines; at the center of the table, there is a delicate and refined inlay reproducing a rose, made by hand with soft precious woods, the two peripheral circles of the top are always inlaid. The most interesting and compelling feature of this table is the workmanship with which it was made: the " wood veneer"( Attention. The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable in English, in fact, the "lastronatura" is very different and older than “wood veneer”. Read explanation later). The”lastronatura” is an artisan technique that spread already during the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-nineteenth century before the Industrial Revolution; it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, mahogany, briar, walnut-feather, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex: the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps...
