About the Item

Christian Krekels Pyrite and Resin Coffee Table with Stepped Steel Base, Signed A masterful fusion of sculptural form and refined composition, this oblong coffee table by Belgian artist Christian Krekels is a striking example of collectible design. The resin top is intricately inlaid with cross-sections of mineral pyrite, creating a mosaic-like surface in shimmering hues of silver, taupe, and platinum. The pattern—organic, irregular, and dazzlingly intricate—resembles a jewel-encrusted tableau, rich in nuance and quietly arresting. The top rests on a solid enamel-coated steel base in a rich, blackish-brown tone. Each leg features three step-back supports that lend the piece a tiered architectural rhythm, adding weight and dimension without visual heaviness. The table is signed with a gold plaque at the edge of the top, underscoring its status as a collector’s work of art. Krekels, born in 1942 in Belgium and trained at the Institut des Arts Saint-Luc in Tournai, began his career as a sculptor before transitioning into diamond design. His signature tables reflect all facets of his practice—melding the precision of a jeweler with the boldness of a sculptor and the sensibility of a designer. Styling suggestions: This table's luminous surface and understated palette make it a striking anchor in any interior. Pair it with low-slung mid-century seating for a chic, gallery-like environment, or place it within a richly layered space of plush textiles and vintage lighting to amplify its glow. It sits beautifully atop neutral or dark-toned rugs and offers a compelling contrast against minimalist backdrops, travertine floors, or richly paneled walls. At once classic and contemporary, this is a statement piece that transcends trends and elevates any room from the ordinary to the extraordinary.
