DeNisco Large Coffee Table Chrome Ceramic Fat Lava Tiled Mid Century 1970s MCM

About the Item

A strikingly attractive and extremely rare Belgian Mid Century coffee table in wonderful condition. This outstanding signed table was made by DeNisco in Belgium, most likely in the early 1970s. Bursting with colour and decorative flair, this exceptional chrome and Fat Lava tiled coffee table will add a wonderfully vibrant and multi-textured, high-end Mid Century aesthetic to any interior. Beautifully sized to make an impact, this is a statement coffee table par excellence. It features a show-stopping top of 'Fat Lava' textured ceramic tiles in sunburst patterns of predominantly red and green with splashes and dashes of turquoise, grey, yellow, black and ivory. The top, itself a stunning work of art with the “DeNisco” signature in one corner, is off-set beautifully by the almost-Brutalist right angles and overlapping layers of the robust and protective brushed aluminium border and strikingly sleek and shiny chrome sleigh legs. Overall this is an outstanding and truly impressive rare piece bursting with colour, texture and quality throughout - and is definitely one of our favourite ever coffee tables! CONDITION This is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound, this was wonderfully constructed and built to last. The tiles are in excellent and quite remarkable condition, with no signs of chips or cracks. There are some minor to-be-expected scratches to the brushed aluminium border and the chrome legs are in wonderful condition with some hard-to-notice signs of ageing on their internal corners and one of the pairs of legs is missing the original small plastic feet. Overall it’s a remarkable rare table in wonderful vintage condition and if well looked after it should last for generations to come - please see the photos. Looking for a spectacular ceramic coffee table! Look no further. Ceramic top with pleasing modulations and contrasts between colors (Off-white, gray, amber, and gold), textures (smooth, rough), linings (texture lines, designed lines, and grout lines), geometric patterns (within and between tiles), and tile sizes. The very best in ceramic coffee tables, Roger Capron had to offer. Ceramic tiles are made of lava, which is lighter in weight, supporting all the variations mentioned above. Moreover, each tile was shaped and flattened by hand, a first for Mr Capron's work. Mr Capron built up his company from 1 to 120 employees from 1946 to 1982. Here is a quick summary of his prolific production: - Free-form decorative items with hand-glazed decors and drawings (from 1948) - Navet tiles hand-glazed on industrial tiles from Villeroy and Boch (From 1950 to 1958) - Planet tiles hand-glazed on industrial tiles from Villeroy and Boch (From 1959 to 1975) - Hand-shaped ceramics (mostly humidors and lamps) covering the 19070s - Indoors and outdoors wall panels covering buildings and lobbies. The most famous ones are the 5-star Hotel Byblos in Saint Tropez (with Jean Derval), Gare maritime de Cannes, - Lava tiles in hundreds of colors and textures (1970 to 1984)—This coffee table is from this production. - Garrigue and Herbiers tiles (1970 to 1984) - Unique, whimsical sculptures, including gigantic sculptures...
