About the Item

A Dutch 1920s - 1930s rather large round two tiered coffeetable with a modernist design. It was designed by Jan den Drijver, an architect, interiordesigner and furniture shop owner until 1936 (De Stijl Woninginrichting in The Hague) This piece is in very good professionally restored condition, very stable and with nice woodgrain and great details in the design of the tableleg - with the black stained details and extending over the top. Jan den Drijver, who had a furniture shop in the Hague is considered one of the Hague School modernists. Pictures in natural light and some in sunlight to provide an accurate impression of the colour and appearance. The Hague School background information After the First World War, young designers such as Jan den Drijver, Hendrik Wouda, Cor Alons and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. For inspiration they chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and combined their idiosyncratic preferences with the commercial requirements in furniture design of that time. The result was the now well-known Dutch 'Hague School' style with its straight and cubist shapes. Pictures were taken in different kinds of angles and light in order to provide an accurate impression of its unusual appearance. The Hague School (Haagse School) In the 1920s, a style of architecture and furniture design emerged in The Hague that would become known as Haagse School. More cubist and functional than the imaginative Amsterdam School style, but with some similarities as well. After the First World War, young designers such as Hendrik Wouda, Cor Alons and J. Brunott developed their own modern interior design. For inspiration they chose the work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and combined their idiosyncratic preferences with the commercial requirements in furniture design of that time. The result was the now well-known Dutch 'Hague School' style with its clean lines and rationalist shapes.
