Very rare English Regency period, circa 1810, low table having cinnabar red papier ma^che´ tray top with gilt foliate geometric border on original parcel-gilt tilt-top trestle base Stand with central swiveling butterfly or gate support of lozenge-in-square design. This style of low table was designed to be multifunctional for use as a low table when opened and a firescreen when closed. This form is uncommon as most trays were later remounted on four-legged stands; a rare survivor. Height when top is vertical: 27.25".
