About the Item

French Modernist Art Deco side table/coffee table by Etienne Martin, circa 1932, in French walnut and walnut burl with nickeled bronze mount. Measures: 35.5" diameter x 19.5" high. Etienne Martin (1905-1997) French decorator and furniture designer Etienne Martin studied at the Ecole Boulle in Paris. He later worked for renowned designer/ironworker, Edgar Brandt, for three years. From 1938-1945 Martin was artistic director of Le Magasins du Louvre in Paris. Subsequently he was artistic director of Bon Marche in Brussels. A Modernist, Martin was influenced by the work of Louis Sognot and Rene Guillere. By 1954 he had set up his own workshop in Vanves, near Paris; he designed furniture, some of which was produced by JER, Borgeaud and Soubrier.
