Finnish Modern Club Table Model "Eino" by Maija Heikinheimo for Asko, 1930s
About the Item
A lovely art deco club table by Maija Heikinheimo produced by Asko in the 1930s. In the original drawings the table is called "Eino". The table is light and can be easily moved around.
Maija Heikinheimo (1908-1963) was an interior architect that started her career at Asko in 1932-1935. Later she joined the Artek team, and was Alvar Aalto´s right hand, especially after Aino Aalto´s sudden death due to illness. Maija was the general manager for Artek from 1945-1955.
Maija designed furnitures, light fixtures and some dishes and smaller objects as well. Maija was awarded the Pro-Finlandia medal in 1959.
Maija was a very talented designer, and yet she prefered to stay in the background. She stayed at Artek for the rest of her working career until she suddenly fell ill and passed away at the young age of 55 in 1963.
