About the Item
“FRAGMENTS IN TIME” is a one-of-a-kind coffee table, that combines minimalist modern design with classic Roman iconography. Designed by Vincent Copeland as part of KalaRara’s “ICONS” Luxury Collection, this unique piece was made by hand in our atelier in Rome. The tabletop recreates fragments found in a mosaic pavement of a Roman Villa excavated on the island of Cyprus. A dramatic black and white circular key pattern frames a lion standing next to a doric column with spiral design at the center of the tabletop. Both of the central elements, faithfully rendered to replicate the original pavement, were reproduced in a color scheme of warm gold, amber and topaz which provides a counterpoint to the coolness of the icy white crystal background. The tabletop was created on a base of reclaimed wood employing a mosaic application technique whereby crushed Murano glass is set by hand and fixed with crystal clear acrylic. A panel of extra-clear tempered glass covers the tabletop and rests inset in the handmade base of mirror polished stainless steel. The table base, in itself a work of art, recalls a finely made watch casing. The seamless stainless steel bezel, inset with extra-clear tempered glass protecting the artwork below, rests on a stainless steel barrel divided into four equal parts by inset channels with exposed stainless steel cross top screw heads. The entire piece rests on an inset stainless steel base, which protects against scuff marks and simultaneously gives the impression the table slightly hovers slightly above the floor. Not simply a coffee table, “Fragments In Time” is a functional work of art.

The company designs and produces one-of-a-kind and limited edition luxury furnishings, all handmade by Roman master craftsmen and artisans. Our made-by-hand, in-house production along with the use of the finest materials affords us the ability to create luxury furnishings of impeccable craftsmanship and quality.
