About the Item

Designed by renowned jewelry artist Taher Chemirik, ‘Giant Crystal Sun’ is a simple yet spectacular table with brass and tubular legs including a unique crystal rock cut-out from a two ton crystal. “I like the idea of a piece which challenges the space and conventions. For me, beauty is always obvious and amazing. And every creation is a one-of-a-kind ‘rendez-vous’.” This mineralogical specimen in and of itself depicts the evolution of the earth. Its rainbow-like reflections next to stormy spots are testimonies of the planet’s climate change across millions of years. Beyond its function as a table, this is a true witness of the history of the world and of life. The star-like brass plateau shines like the sun through the giant crystal rock top. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD), jewelry designer Taher Chemirik has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious fashion labels, including Chloé, Hermès, Balenciaga, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Roger Vivier. He was named by Time one of the world’s most influential designers in 2007 for his jewelry signature designs using oversized links, drop-like petals and ebony wood. Three of his pieces are included in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. “In my jewelry, I use fine stones, gold and silver, but also wood, coral and hard stones. I like to mix materials in my furniture as well, in particular ones that defy time and are in line with the tradition of the decorative arts – brass, wood and hard stones.“ With the "Interior Treasures" ("Bijoux d'Intérieur") furniture collection, Taher Chemirik reveals the entire extent of his talent that identifies him as a poet and architect of the object. Each piece is unique, handmade in Paris in fine and timeless materials, such as brass, copper and rare hard stones. His works have the beauty of a contemporary sculpture, dense as well as sensual, refined and dramatic. Their strong presence vouches for the panache of an artist who expresses himself in volume, in tune with the scale of jewelry as well as with pieces with larger dimensions. ‘Giant Crystal Sun’ is a signed unique piece by Taher Chemirik.
