About the Item

Giovanni Michelucci coffee table for the Galleria Vigna Nuova in Florence, brass and copper, Italy, 1962. This coffee table is a unique piece designed by Giovanni Michelucci in 1962 for Galleria Vigna Nuova, Firenze. The coffee table showcases a refined copper structure with an enameled tabletop. The table features a painted arched motif with a golden chromatic contrast and a wood-like effect, accentuated by a glossy crackle varnish finish. Framed in black-painted copper, the piece is further enhanced by polished brass elements, including screws for the support crossbars and brass-capped feet. This design embodies a linear architectural style with mid-century influences, elevating it beyond mere functionality to a work of art. Commissioned by Galleria Vigna Nuova, a cultural space in Florence founded by Danilo, Sergio, and Valeria Santi in 1945, this space was conceived as a creative hub for innovation in visual arts, design, publishing, architecture, and craftsmanship until the flood of 1966. This bespoke table not only reflects the collaborative spirit of the Galleria but also stands as a testament to Michelucci’s mastery of materials and form.
