Halabala Style Czechoslovak Round Wooden And Glass Coffee Table

About the Item

We kindly invite you to read the entire description, as we provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our pieces. We would like to point out that we have a twin table with the same diameter but 1 cm shorter (see the last photo). Feel free to contact us if you are interested in purchasing both. This elegant round coffee table stands out for its clean and refined design. The structure is made of beechwood, a light-colored, durable, and high-quality material known for its strength. Thanks to these properties, beechwood is widely used in the production of chairs and other furniture subjected to frequent impact and stress. The table was crafted between 1955 and 1960 in a woodworking atelier in Brno, Czechoslovakia. The artisans were inspired by the style of Jindřich Halabala, who was considered one of the leading designers of the time. They meticulously followed his design principles, ensuring precision in every detail and using the same materials favored by the artist: beechwood, prized for its availability and workability, and glass, which added a touch of modernity and lightness to the design. The 1950s and 1960s marked the rise of modernism, a style characterized by clean lines, functionality, and a blend of natural and industrial materials. This table perfectly embodies these trends: its solid wooden structure harmonizes elegantly with the transparent glass top, creating a striking contrast. Modernist aesthetics aimed to combine beauty and practicality, making furniture not only visually appealing but also highly functional. We are pleased to present this exquisite vintage coffee table from the 1950s-1960s, a genuine example of Eastern European modernist design. Crafted from fine beechwood, valued for its durability and warm grain, this piece merges traditional craftsmanship with stylistic innovation. The wide-diameter transparent glass top provides a bright surface that highlights the natural beauty of the wood beneath, creating a fascinating interplay of light and reflections. With an ideal height for use as a coffee table or an accent piece in elegant interiors, this item is a perfect addition to any space. Its clean lines and harmonious combination of materials give the table a timeless aesthetic, enriching any setting with a touch of history and sophistication. A must-have opportunity for vintage design enthusiasts and anyone looking to add a unique and distinctive piece to their collection. Jindřich Halabala, the inspiration behind this table, was born on May 24, 1903, in Koryčany, Czechoslovakia, and passed away in Brno in 1978. Initially trained as a cabinetmaker in his father’s workshop, he enrolled in the State School of Woodworking in Valašské Meziříčí in 1920 and later completed his practical training at the United Arts and Crafts Manufacture in Brno. Starting in the 1930s, Halabala played a significant role in furniture production, contributing to the rise of industrial manufacturing in Czechoslovakia. Between the interwar period and the post-war years, he designed furniture that furnished numerous homes across Europe. His style, as well as that of the artisans who followed his school, blended various influences, including Functionalism and Art Deco. His aesthetic was neither purely German Functionalism nor entirely French or Belgian Art Deco nor did it resemble the more decorative Viennese productions. Instead, Halabala masterfully fused these influences, creating a distinctive and modern furniture line. Among his primary stylistic inspirations were Czech Cubism, Art Deco, and the Bauhaus aesthetic, with the goal of combining beauty and functionality. The table is in good condition. Qing Dynasty-Style Set of 4 Chinese Wooden Nesting Side Tables
Located in Prato, Tuscany
Please carefully read the complete description below, where we provide technical and historical details to ensure the authenticity of our items. This is an original set of four Chinese side tables crafted from black lacquered oak. Known as nesting or interlocking tables, these pieces fit into one another and have a long tradition in China as both functional and decorative furniture. The production of high-quality furniture, including nesting tables, is historically associated with the Suzhou region, renowned for its fine craftsmanship and classical Chinese-style furniture. Interlocking wooden side tables were especially popular during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), although their use dates back to earlier times. This particular set dates from the late Qing Dynasty, between 1902 and 1905, and was crafted in the Suzhou region by skilled cabinetmakers who executed precise, intricate geometric carvings under each table top. These geometric patterns represent auspicious symbols in Chinese culture and reflect traditional decorative motifs. The tables are made of sturdy oak, ideal for durable furniture, and finished with a black lacquer. The oak used originates from the mountainous northern regions of China, such as Shanxi and Shandong. Stackable and space-saving, nesting tables are perfect for rooms where space optimization is essential. When needed, they can be easily separated and used individually as tea tables...
