About the Item
HUI tiles and furniture are crafted from recycled oyster shells. By powdering and mixing discarded shells sourced from Korea’s oceans, they create robust materials that are transformed into tiles with exquisite textures. While many artworks address themes of nature and sustainability, our goal was to take this a step further. To achieve this, we designed three unique tiles: H, U, and I, enabling diverse architectural designs. Our aim was to create not merely an object, but a unit offering unlimited possibilities—similar to how a single Lego block can be the foundation of a castle.
WKND Lab specializes in various design disciplines, including material research, object design, furniture design, and art installation. With a focus on material-driven narratives, WKND Lab communicates its philosophy about the dynamic interplay between design, humanity, and the natural environment.
