Ico Parisi Style Large Round Italian Coffee Table

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects Refined and elegant Italian coffee table with a round top; the four black painted wooden legs, sloping outward, have a distinctive, eccentric, and unique design. The coffee table has a larger size than normal coffee tables. The artisans used, for the top, a veneer with Sapele burl, using a special technique of leveling and polishing in 12 steps; these processes have allowed, as can be seen from the exceptional designs of the top, to enhance the chromaticism and flaming of this beautiful wood giving our table a unique and exclusive elegance and refinement. The table was produced between 1950 and 1953 in Meda in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy (Italy), a place famous for its design industry and historic luxury handcrafted production of classic and modern furniture; the craftsmen executed the table following a model by the famous Italian designer Ico Parisi, in fact this eclectic artist often had some of his designs executed by small, but valuable, valuable and exclusive, artisan workshops as well as large companies. Ico Parisi (Palermo 1916 - Como 1996) was one of the leading figures of Como culture in the 1900s; in 1951 he began friendships and collaborations with artists, designers, and architects such as Lucio Fontana, Bruno Munari, Mario Radice, and Gio Ponti. These relationships deeply influenced his approach to architecture and furniture design and exemplified Ico Parisi's desire to integrate a synthesis of the arts into his work. By the mid-1950s, Parisi had become one of Italy's most influential furniture designers, with a uniquely modern aesthetic that uses softwoods often shaped into sweeping undulating curves or simple, essential forms. Ico Parisi is a "humanistic" artist-artist figure who is difficult to place, he was an architect and designer but also a photographer, film director, and painter, in short, an all-around artist; he died in Como on December 19, 1996. Sapele (or Sapelli or Sapeli), is a fine wood species with a reddish hue native to West Africa., has characteristics similar to mahogany and in some applications even better than mahogany itself; it is a strong, hard, compact, and rather flexible wood; also because of the attractive appearance it is used as a substitute for mahogany for high-quality furniture, such as cabinets, tables, chairs and chests of drawers, for fine cabinet-making work, for making musical instruments and for furnishing luxury boats. Sapele is characterized by a color hue ranging from red-brown to dark brown, often with darker veins, black stripes, and shades of yellow. Its texture is uniform and has a lustrous appearance. In addition, sapele is known for its strength and hardness. It has good impact resistance and durability, making it suitable for use in furniture and objects subject to mechanical stress. Our table with its clean and rational lines, with the reliability of its wood, with the iconicity and style of its design is an incomparable, exceptional, rare, and valuable object. The table has been completely restored and therefore in excellent condition. Measurements diameter cm.87, height cm.84. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Louis Philippe Style Feather Walnut Coffee Table With Tripod North Italy
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Elegant round coffee table from northern Italy with "orange slice" veneered with walnut-feather; the central stem of the tripod is in hexagonal solid wood; the three final supports, always in solid wood, are shaped and well whittled with simple and rigorous lines; at the center of the table, there is a delicate and refined inlay reproducing a rose, made by hand with soft precious woods, the two peripheral circles of the top are always inlaid. The most interesting and compelling feature of this table is the workmanship with which it was made: the " wood veneer"( Attention. The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable in English, in fact, the "lastronatura" is very different and older than “wood veneer”. Read explanation later). The”lastronatura” is an artisan technique that spread already during the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-nineteenth century before the Industrial Revolution; it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, mahogany, briar, walnut-feather, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex: the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps...
