Italian Early 19th Century Neo Classical St. Cocktail or Coffee Table

About the Item

A stunning Italian early 19th century Neo Classical st. giltwood and Scagliola cocktail or coffee table. The rectangular table is raised by a fine H shaped support with a lovely mottled border. The impressive supports at each side display handsome paw feet below superb richly carved open winged maidens amidst scrolled acanthus leaves. Above is the striking wonderfully executed Scagliola top with an intricately detailed central reserve of Pegasus attacking a man defending his chariot pulled by horses framed within a berried laurel border. Striking colorful scrolled Rinceaux movements extend throughout with beautiful winged maidens amidst lovely foliate patterns with a bearded mask and urns framed within a floral band at the border set on a baby blue background. All original gilt throughout.
