About the Item
A finely crafted square coffee table evocative of Jacques Adnet’s celebrated equestrian aesthetic for Hermès, this piece showcases a harmonious blend of leather-wrapped wrought iron and hand-carved wood, anchored by a sophisticated equine motif. The base is constructed of patinated iron, forged into elegant curving supports and braced by cross-strapped stretchers that converge at a central ring, a subtle nod to horse bit forms. Four sculptural belt-like brackets with cast buckles “secure” the frame corners, reinforcing the table’s saddle and bridle inspiration.
The wooden frame is shaped with classical chamfered edges and adorned with incised lozenge-patterned detailing that contrasts handsomely with the warm natural finish of the wood. The rectangular central opening is fitted with a inset beveled glass pane, allowing visibility into the architectural framework below.
The piece embodies the rugged elegance associated with Jacques Adnet’s collaboration with Hermès during the 1940s–50s, where refined modernism met equestrian heritage. While unmarked, the table bears strong resemblance in quality and style to known Adnet works, and is likely produced by a skilled French atelier working in the same vocabulary.
