Janni Van Pelt Round Coffee Table in White Lacquered Metal and Wired Glass

About the Item

Janni Van Pelt, 'G4' coffee table, wired glass, white lacquered metal, Netherlands, design 1958 Round coffee table in white coated metal and clear wired glass. This table is a variation on Janni Van Pelts model G4, of which there are multiple. The base consists of three slender legs. The non-uniformity of the base makes this piece more attractive and interesting. The top is made out of a metal frame with round glass wired top. The clear glass forms a beautiful unity with the white metal frame. This is a wonderfully minimalist table with a strong aesthetic. Janni van Pelt (1931 -) is a Dutch furniture designer and interior designer who is known for her functional yet aesthetic designs. After World War II, Van Pelt attended the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague where she graduated in Interior Design. Here Van Pelt met her later husband and designer Dick Brouwers. In 1953, Van Pelt and Brouwers started working for ‘My Home woninginrichting’ in Amsterdam; the company of Van Pelt's father and well-known designer Bas van Pelt (1900-1945) who had passed away in a concentration camp near Hamburg. As a tribute to her father, the name of the company changed in 1957 to ‘Bas van Pelt Binnenhuisarchitectuur’. The company flourished during the postwar period, and as a result a new store opened in The Hague during the early sixties. Aware of the innovative designs of their time, a refined collection of prominent modest Northern European furniture pieces was shown at the company's stores, including designs by Janni van Pelt herself. Today, Van Pelt's well-known coffee tables and dining sets are desired furniture pieces due to their timeless designs. Kindly take note that the metal framework contains some wear and scratches.
