About the Item

This low table was crafted in the Early Showa Period (1926–). In Japan, where people traditionally sit on the floor, tables are designed to be lower in height than Western-style furniture. Known as a chabudai, this traditional Japanese folding table was commonly used for daily meals and family gatherings. This piece is made from japanese zelkova wood and showcases a beautifully figured top with a rich patina developed over time. The legs are turned in a simple yet refined shape that reflects the care and skill of the maker. There is a small chip at the tip of one leg—an honest sign of age that adds to the character of the piece. Its folding design allows for easy storage when not in use. Among the many forms of Japanese furniture that have supported daily life, this chabudai stands out for its quality materials and attention to detail, offering a quiet and timeless presence. As an antique piece, minor scratches and marks may be present, each adding to its unique charm and the story it tells over time. Cleaned and disinfected with non-toxic solution. We have conducted a meticulous check for any broken or damaged areas, and the result is absolutely problem-free. It is in excellent condition.
