About the Item
This is an old primitive style coffee table made in Japan.
It is a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture made in the Meiji period (1860s-1900s), hollowed out and shaped directly from a large zelkova tree, giving it an extremely powerful presence.
The dynamic appearance of the wood itself is a true crystallization of nature and human skill. The roundness of the log, the flow of the grain, and even the cracks and splits are all part of the formative beauty.
The expression of the wood changes depending on the angle of view, and the various expressions of the wood quietly speak to the space.
The surface is finished with lacquer, and the deep black color accentuates the texture of the wood surface. It has a simple yet modern impression, and has a sophisticated appearance that blends easily into contemporary spaces.
Insect bite marks can be seen in places, but there are already no insects and there are no problems in use. In fact, these traces add even more charm to the piece, as if they are the personality of the material that has been nurtured over time.
