Japanese Primitive Large Coffee Table 1860s-1900s / Side Table Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is a large primitive-style coffee table made in Japan. It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s) and has a massive presence that has transcended time to the present. The material used is a large, powerful and imposing zelkova tree. Luxuriously carved from a single giant tree, this table has a unique formative beauty created by nature. The flowing grain unique to the zelkova tree has deepened over the years, quietly shaking the viewer's heart. The machete marks on the top surface are powerful and tell of the handiwork of the craftsmen of that time. The natural cracks and knots in the wood give the piece a “wabi-sabi” atmosphere that cannot be found in man-made objects, and it is a true expression of the essence of Japanese beauty. It is in excellent condition for a piece of furniture of this period, with no insect damage. It has an overwhelming presence just by being placed in a space, and is sure to become a mainstay of any interior. Weight: approx. 80 kg ___________________________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
