About the Item

Large Canvas Table by Philipp Aduatz Unique Dimensions: D 90 x W 120 x H 43 cm Materials: Different resins, Fiberglass, oil paint, steel, clear coating. Each piece is unique. The concept of the Canvas Tables by Austrian Designer Philipp Aduatz is to combine experimental furniture with a traditional oil painting technique. The idea is to use the top surface of a unique table as a canvas for an artwork. The shape of the tables is produced by moulding resin on a plate and the outline of the tables is formed depending on the viscosity of the resin. Then the tables are painted with oil-based paint, the motive for the paintings is the soft fading of a gradient like it can be seen in a clear sky. After the paint is dried the surface is coated with a special clear lacquer to protect the oil color and make the table suitable for daily use. The steel legs underneath the table are connected with a fiberglass reinforced resin construction to the plate. Vienna-based Designer Philipp Aduatz (born 1982) creates limited-edition functional objects that are highly sculptural in nature. Working with innovative materials and fabrication technologies, Aduatz is very much influenced by scientific matters such as chemistry, physics, and material technologies. His process combines traditional craft concepts and techniques with cutting-edge implements such as 3D printing, 3D laser scanning, CNC milling, and Rapid Prototyping. The experimentation with different materials and their behavior is an important part of his research at the intersection of design and sculpture. Greatly influenced by sculptors such as Constantin Brancusi and Tony Cragg, the designer aims to develop a distinct language of form in each of his pieces, encouraging a new discourse between the object and its user or viewer.
