About the Item

Executed in France circa 1950, this refined mid-century coffee table is designed in the manner of Maison Baguès, renowned for their luxurious use of gilt metal and glass. The thick rectangular glass top rests within a brass-trimmed surround, its clean lines softened by the warm patina of gilt accents. The slender nickel-plated legs are fitted with decorative brass collars and terminate in elegant tapered feet with brass sabots. A gracefully curved nickel stretcher unites the base, lending both stability and sculptural balance to the design. The contrast between the cool nickel finish and the golden brass details reflects the sophisticated mixed-metal aesthetic favored by Baguès.
