Midcentury French Maison Baguès Brass Coffee Table with Eglomisé Glass Top

About the Item

This elegant and slender cocktail table was crafted in France by Maison Baguès circa 1960; the rectangular table stands on four fluted brass legs embellished with ring decor, over an arched bottom stretcher dressed with end finials. The surface is dressed with a mirrored "Verre Eglomisé" glass top set inside a decorative apron. The low table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated two-tone gilt and gun barrel finish. Since 1860, The Maison Baguès has been located in the center of Paris and specializes in the creation of luxury furniture and lighting. Early on, it became the emblem of French "Savoir-Faire" in wrought iron work, along with French craftsmanship, which is highly valued internationally. Verre églomisé is a French term referring to the process of applying both a design and gilding onto the rear face of glass to produce a mirror finish. The name is derived from the 18th-century French decorator and art-dealer Jean-Baptiste Glomy, who was responsible for its revival. Measures: 39.5' W x 19" D x 17.75" H.
