Modern Round Coffee Table in White Carrara Marble
About the Item
Duffy casts an eye downwards - with a captivating modern coffee table design. A deep blue Abyss appears to float effortlessly above free space, eclipsing everything that lies beneath.
A study of depth and our perception of it, the Abyss Horizon makes use of the interplay between light and layers of pristine white marble and sculpted blue glass to forge a mesmerising three-dimensional canvas - reminiscent of our own perception of water, and how we observe its colour transform at different depths.
The perceived change in colour, becomes the dynamic element that gives true meaning to the piece, conjuring up ideas of a great oceanic topography, and transforming the flowing design into an expressive object.
For the 2023 edition, three curved legs support a dramatic, contoured base section that appears to collapse down into the floor. The free, physical space around the edges of the table focuses the senses and enhances our view of a great, floating Abyss, with a colossal sinkhole at its centre.
In a design first Duffy London is now able to offer the table with the base section carved from a single block of White Italian Carrara Marble. The interaction of the marble and blue-tinted glass offers up a pure blue, with an almost arctic-like effect, linking to Christopher Duffy’s original inspiration for the table to mirror the depth and aesthetic of icebergs - which darken as they deepen.
Each piece is handmade to order and offered in two sizes.

Duffy London Ltd
Ideas-based modern furniture and collectible design from Christopher Duffy and British design studio Duffy London. Combining art and function, and playing with the concepts of gravity, geography, and optical illusion. We work with a talented team of designers, artisans, and manufacturers to turn these concepts into high-quality pieces of statement furniture and sculpture. Works are divided into six main collections - Abyss, Solo, Megalith, Up! Balloon, Swing, and Meeting Pod. Chris and the studio are constantly innovating and releasing new modern furniture designs Works have featured at Art Basel, Art Miami and 100% Design London. In 2016 Duffy London was a partner for the PAD London 20th Century Design & Decorative Arts Fair. In 2019, a limited edition of the Abyss Coffee Table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at The Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent National collection. Everything we do is handmade to order and bespoke by skilled craftspeople here in the UK. We only use wood from sustainably managed forests and other eco-friendly building materials and mediums. Chris founded Duffy London in 2002.
