Mario Gottardi (2013-2004)
Modernist table in cherry with wooden frame and glass top on two brass supports, container with storage compartment and a drawer.
Italian Manufacturing ca. 1950.
Mario Gottardi was born in Venice in 1913 and graduated in architecture in Milan in 1939. His career began in Venice, his hometown, with restoration work including Palazzo Mocenigo and Palazzo Contarini on the Grand Canal. In 1951 he renovated the interiors and created the furnishings of the famous Hotel Bauer in Venice and in 1958 he collaborated on the urban planning of Piazzale Roma. He designed and built numerous villas and won, at different times, competitions for the ships Cristoforo Colombo (1953), Leonardo da Vinci (1958), Michelangelo (1962), for which he created the furnishings. In 2013, an exhibition of his sketches and preparatory drawings was set up at the Salone d’Onore of the Triennale di Milano.

Melchiorre Bega (1898-1976) trained as an architect and later became a designer. He is well known for his very well detailed functionalist and modern design. Bega rejected the Art Deco style that prevailed at the time. Bega works only with highly professional specialized craftsmen, designs and builds hundreds of shops and showrooms for major brands of the time such as Motta, Alemagna, Martini, Galtrucco etc. In the early 1940s he directed the famous Domus magazine founded by his dear friend Gio Ponti for a few years.
