About

Beautiful and rare, top of the range, sculptural coffee table with Swivel out hidden internal illuminated bar compartment designed by famous italian decorator ,Massimo Papiri for Atelier ‘Mario Sabot’, Italy in 1973. This table is published in the May 1973 issue of Casa Vogue. Please see image 9 which confirms the designer as Papiri.

Accoring to page 62 in James P Goss' book "POP CULTURE FLORIDA' Papiri’s interior design commissions include among others the Ritz hotel in Paris as well as interiors for film stars such as Sylvestor Stallone, Papiri redesigned the interior of Stallone’s coconut grove mansion.

Papiri and Willy Rizzo were responsible for a plethora of beautiful, luxuriant and high end design pieces during the late 1960s and 1970s period, many of which were produced under license by Mario Sabot’s atelier.

This stunning high quality scuptural form table bar is finished in stainless steel with black laminate to the upper horizontal surfaces and base along with an elegant, curved transparent acrylic window which closes the vertical edge of the swivelling bar lid and which allows light to spill though when the bar is illuminated. The bar light comes on automatically when you swivel open the bar compartment and automatically shuts off when you close it. The swivel mechanism is light and smooth and very high quality, the large bespoke heavy duty stainless steel hinge on the swivelling compartment is beautifully detailed. Please see Image 8. There is also a large circular stainless steel, dual purpose, champagne ice bucket or planter around which the bar compartment swivels.

The hidden internal bar is as mentioned automatically illuminated and 100% complete inside comprising an acrylic tray molded to hold seven bottles and stiill retains the original stainless steel ice tray. Please see Image 4.

A very rare and desirable example and a picture of elegance and quality.
