About the Item

An original 1920s to 30s Dutch bauhaus smoker's or drinks table with a revolving top. Very rare to find. The table top rotates by means of small metal balls that turn in a round slot cut into the wooden frame under the tabletop. One can hear the sound of the small rond metal balls turning inside when turning the top around. The table has been professionally restored (also the two tabletops), the rotating system has been revised and works perfectly. The modest size of this table makes it an ideal piece to use as a special accent in a room, for instance as a drinks table. Combines well with minimalist bauhaus furniture, and because of the modernist design, also blends in well with more contemporary furniture. The table is stable and sturdy, consists of chromed metal and two wooden tabletops. There are still some signs of age and wear, to preserve the original character and show the age. These include scratches and wear on the chrome and the chrome balls that are under the tables' base. About Bauhaus: The Bauhaus style is known for its emphasis on functionality, simplicity, and clean lines. This side table perfectly reflects the principles. Bauhaus design often features simple geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles, and straight lines. The focus is on functionality and form. Some iconic designers associated with the Bauhaus movement include Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius.
