About the Item

The Rikt coffee table takes its motifs from common patterns found around Udaipur. The flower and the cross inlay patterns are hand shaped in oak, then embedded into a carved cavity in the teak table, contrasting with the dark wood. Metal bars are added to stabilize the wood and create a dynamic frame. The simple table form and patterns are easily customizable. Once, I stood tall and proud, a mighty tree swaying in the gentle breeze, my branches reaching towards the sky, and my roots firmly planted in the earth. I was a part of the forest, a silent observer of the passage of time. Each day, the sun would rise, casting its warm light upon my leaves, and each night, the moon would glow, enveloping the world in its silvery embrace. Life was simple, yet fulfilling. Then, one day, the tranquility was shattered by the sound of axes and saws. Men had come to the forest, and I could feel their intent. With a heavy heart, I watched as one by one, my companions fell, their trunks crashing to the ground. And soon, it was my turn. With a loud crack, I tumbled, and the world I knew disappeared. In the hands of skilled craftsmen, I was transformed. Hewn and shaped, I became a part of something new—a grand haveli, standing proudly in the heart of a bustling town. Within the haveli, I was part of the doorway, the threshold through which families entered, and memories were made. I witnessed laughter, tears, and the passage of generations. But as time wore on, the haveli, once full of life, fell into disrepair. Neglected and forgotten, it stood as a relic of days gone by. One day, a group of artisans came, drawn by the allure of reclaiming what once was. With careful hands, they dismantled the haveli, piece by piece, salvaging what they could. And so, I found myself reborn once more. Time was the first element to shape me. Hours of careful carving, shaping, and sanding molded me into the form I wear proudly today. My surface, once rough and unpolished, now carries the smoothness that only the touch of time and care can bring. And within this journey of my creation, there lies a story – one woven by the grains of the teak, the sturdy backbone of my structure, and the soft, comforting embrace of the oak inlay that adorns me. My body is a canvas, a testament to the artistry of the hands that crafted me. The oak inlay, etched with delicate precision, paints a flower pattern across my surface, each petal a whisper of beauty, each stem a reminder of the enduring strength of nature. The flower pattern, meticulously carved and polished, tells a tale of harmony, growth, and the eternal cycle of life. It speaks of the delicate balance between strength and fragility, a reminder that beauty can be found even in the most unexpected places. I remember the day I first found my place in the world. It was a moment of pride, of fulfillment, as I settled into the heart of a warm, welcoming home. Through the years, I have aged gracefully, my beauty deepening with the passage of time. My surface has acquired a rich patina, a testament to the life I have lived and the memories I hold. As I stand here today, basking in the warm glow of the afternoon sun, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the hands that crafted me, for the home that welcomed me, and for the memories that have been etched into my very being. I am more than just a coffee table; I am a keeper of stories, a guardian of memories, and a reminder of the enduring beauty that lies within us all.
