About the Item

A Rolls Royce Pegasus jet engine annular ASM combustor chamber table, with 18 mm toughened glass top. The unique Pegasus engine powers all versions of the Harrier family of multi-role military aircraft. The Rolls-Royce Pegasus is a turbofan engine originally designed by Bristol Siddeley, and was manufactured by Rolls-Royce plc. This engine is able to direct thrust downwards which can then be swivelled to power a jet aircraft forward. Lightly loaded, it can also manoeuvre like a helicopter, vertically for take-off and landings. Pegasus 11-21 Mk.105 was developed for the second generation Harriers, the USMC AV-8B Harrier II and the BAE Harrier IIs. The 11-21 was developed for the second generation Harriers, the USMC AV-8B Harrier II and the BAE Harrier IIs. Pegasus engines are on public display at the following museums: Royal Air Force Museum, London. Science Museum (London) Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust, Indianapolis, Indiana. Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. Deutsches Museum, Munich, Germany Naval Aviation Museum, India. Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust Collection, Derby, UK.
