Round STACKED Coffee Table by Richard Haining, shown in Mahogany, Custom

$12,150per item

About

The STACKED Table Base's are hand-built custom per your specifications. Round and low like the Mahogany Base shown here, possibly lower or wider, using a different species of wood, or even something asymmetrical. Stacked piece by individual piece, layer upon layer, Richard carefully places each individual piece of wood to create the desired profile, whatever that may be for you. The salvaged wood offers one-of-a-kind patterns made brought to life by Richard’s STACKED process achieving a quality reminiscent of both basketry and mosaic tile work. Once built, the exterior surface is gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand held tools; while the interior is left unshaped accentuating the terraced contours. The final result is a finely honed finish with slight undulations, similar to that of hand-built ceramics. While the salvaged wood offers one-of-a-kind patterns, the overall shape, quantity, scale, and material choice of Richard’s STACKED tables are customizable upon request. Please note: These images show the table base in salvaged Mahogany. Custom options are available in a variety of domestic hardwoods, some specialty woods, as well as overall shape and size upon request. This table shows a 46"dia glass top with a beveled edge, larger tops are possible as well. Customizations may incur additional cost. This table base is fully customizable in all aspects.

Customization Options

Custom sizes, wood species, and tops are available upon request, noting that variations may incur additional cost. Please be aware, due to the nature of the STACKED process, and the qualities inherent to each piece of wood, each finished base is unique. Please feel free to contact Richard to discuss any options you are considering, as he'd be happy to tailor this piece for you or your client's space.

About The Maker

Richard Haining is a Brooklyn-based studio furniture maker and artist. Raised in Atlanta and educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, he is committed to responsible design that is elegantly hand-crafted with a modern sensibility. Blurring the line between function and fine art, Richard works with designers, trade professionals, and residential clients alike; custom tailoring each piece to suit each client’s specific needs. Whether creating a decorative vase, a custom cabinet, or executing a client's design, Richard’s meticulous attention to detail results in finished pieces that are both utilitarian and beautiful. Much of his current work is directly influenced by the over-abundance of waste and scrap wood being discarded around him. He finds beauty in the knots, century-old nail holes, mineral stains, and other “defects” that are part of that tree’s history, a fingerprint of time since passed, a natural beauty to be celebrated. These locally salvaged remnants became the building blocks for his ‘Stacked’ collection of decorative vessels and furniture pieces. The one of a kind patterns created by the tiny stacked wooden pieces achieve a quality reminiscent of mosaic tile work, basketry, and ceramics. In a world that tends to shun manual labor, Richard finds pure joy in the art of working with his hands. The ritual of creating each individual piece is a very gratifying experience for him, and it is his wish that the recipients of his work experience the same delight.
