About the Item
This meditation stone coffee table exemplifies organic modern style with an emphasis on natural materials. The tabletop is solid stone unearthed from Jiangsu province, comprised of white marble with mineral inclusions of pink, black and light green. With its sloping shape and "cracked ice" patterning, the marble slab resembles a snowy mountain peak, recalling the rocky horizons of shan shui (山水) landscape paintings.
For use as a coffee table, the stone is elevated by two sculptural wooden legs, each hand-turned from reclaimed mulberry into spherical shapes. A local Chicago artisan carves the mulberry with handheld tools to create these unique, contoured forms that perfectly balance the colorful stone top.
This sculptural table consists of three separate pieces. The stone slab is not affixed to the wooden legs and its heavy weight keeps it stable. The slab weighs approximately 250 lbs.
