About the Item

The sculptural based “Condor” was a coffee table designed by Swedish designer Fredrik Schriever-Abeln. Similar to his iconic chair of a similar build, the solid teak “X” base grabs a thick panel of clear glass. This is as much a work of fine art as it is a coffee table. Please note, one of the teak plugs in the base is missing, and should be replaced. The thick glass top also has wear consistent with age, bearing minor scratches in the surface and one 1" x 3" chip at one corner. Sold as-is.

"Condor" Coffee Table by Fredrik Schriever Abeln for Örebro Glas, Sweden, 1960s
By Örebro Glasfabrik, Fredrik Schriever-Abeln
Located in Utrecht, NL
Swedish designer, Fredrik Schriever-Abeln’s designs have become quite sought after only in the past years. This is in part due to the beloved design of this “Condor” table being misattributed to Illum Wikkelsø until recently. The distinctive “X” shaped teak base defines this coffee table holding a glass top. The solid wood base is sculpted to perfection, the level of woodwork and precise joinery technique greatly shows off the skills of the craftsman. The structure is made with minimal joinery, the glass top is held solely by the carved “arms”, while the stretcher is joined to the legs with mortise and tenon joints. The balance of the size of the glass top and wooden parts praise the designer’s vision. The modern aesthetic shows that this table - like the Condor chairs...
