About the Item
Mid Century Modern Italian Rustic solid slab walnut coffee table. This table dates from the 1950s Italian Folk Art period. It features beautiful details of wood craft and exposed peg joinery as well as a very sturdy and "over-engineered" construction. Very fine artisanal piece.
The table is constructed of a rectangular thick slab top, supported by a frame of 4 legs angled outwards and reinforced by both horizontal and lateral bracings. All in beams of walnut. The only metal fastenings are the removable screws that attach the top to the base.
The proportions are highly appealing and showcase the truly noble wood of the European walnut. This table has been re-oiled in a matte hard wax oil finish. This gives a very natural smooth feeling to the wood, unlike the lacquer film finishes common for the period.
This rustic piece evokes a Wabi-sabi organic modern feel for a chalet or condo in the sky. Pairs extremely well with saddle leathers in black, tan, tobacco or cognac.
