This iconic table is from the edition begun in 1963 under the supervision of Yves Klein’s widow, Rotraut Klein-Moquay, based on two models he designed in 1961. Klein died suddenly in 1962 and other than these two original models owned by his estate there are no vintage tables. From 1963 to the present, the Yves Klein Archives has overseen the production of this coffee table and there has only ever been the one, continuous edition. The estate does not recognize tables produced earlier in the edition as any more valuable than the brand new ones we sell today. Each table has a signed and numbered placard of authenticity issued by the estate affixed to the underside.
The table is available in the three materials most common to Klein's work: International Klein Blue (IKB) pigment, rose pigment, and gold leaf. The tables are a controlled edition which means the estate produces a limited number each year. The exact number produced of each variation is not made public though, certainly in the early years, few, if any, tables were made. Over the last decade the tables have been in more demand but no more than about 40-60 tables in total, inclusive of all three variations, are produced each year.
The table comes in one size, 14¼ H. x 49¼ x 39¼ inches (36 x 125 x 100 cm), and customization is not possible. The sides and base of the table are plexiglass but the top is a more durable glass making the table very functional and easy to maintain.

Yves Klein
French artist Yves Klein is best known for his trademark ultramarine pigment, which he patented as International Klein Blue in 1961. “Blue … is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colors are not,” he said.
“All colors arouse specific ideas, while blue suggests at most the sea and the sky; and they, after all, are in actual, visible nature what is most abstract.”
Starting in the mid-1950s, Klein made retinal blue monochrome paintings (which would prove cornerstones of Minimalism) and the pigment would also feature prominently in his Anthropometry paintings, for which Klein smeared nude women with blue pigment and used them as human brushes on canvas, sometimes in elaborate public performances. Klein's work anticipated Conceptual art, performance art and environmental art, as in his selling of portions of empty space to collectors. For The Void (1958), he presented an empty gallery as an artwork, wearing a white tie and tails to show visitors around the blank walls.

This limited edition is the result of a collaboration between the estates of two renowned French artists, Yves Klein and François Pompon. It is based on the original mould for Pompon’s L’Ours blanc, a cast sculpture of a white polar bear first shown in Paris at the Autumn Salon in 1922. Pompon created this bear a a few times using different media, however the most famous one, created in stone, can be seen at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
This edition, titled L’Ours Pompon, transforms the bear with Klein's iconic International Klein Blue (IKB) pigment which Klein associated with the immaterial values beyond what can be seen or touched.
