"Tour Eiffel" table in blackened and gilt iron by Jean Royère
About the Item
This model is similar to the table base presented at the “la Résidence française” exposition organized by Waldemar George, editor at Art et Industrie. In 1947. Royère experimented with the motif of a grid of rods with small gilt spheres marking the intercies in a number of applications, including tabourets, table bases, light fixtures, mirror frames, and architectural grille-work. Dubbed “Tour Eiffel” referencing the trestles in the Parisian landmark, the pattern was notably included in Royère’s design for the French consulate in Alexandria (1948).
