About the Item

The "Two Colors" coffee table was designed in circa 1950 and produced by Branco & Preto, an architecture and design firm that opened in 1952 in São Paulo. Branco & Preto was one of Brazil's forerunners of interior architecture and modern furniture. The coffee table has a glass top with a structure in solid wood has two colors, which gives the name to the piece: part in the natural golden color of wood, and the rest is painted black. As in other furniture pieces by the company, the design plays with the company's name – the literal translation is "black and white." The studio was managed by the architects Miguel Forte (1915-2002), Jacob Ruchti (1917-1974), Plínio Croce (1921-1984), Roberta Aflalo (1926-1992), Carlos Millan (1927-1964), and Chinese architect Chen Y Hwa. It operated for approximately ten years and marked the history of Brazilian design, becoming a reference for architects at the time – who visited the studio to learn about trends and discuss ideas. This piece is restored, in very good vintage condition.
